Venison Provisions

During the 2023-2024 hunting season alone, almost 202,000 were recorded as harvested in the state of Alabama.

That is only with an estimated 87% reporting rate. True numbers could well be over 232,000.

In Alabama, as of 2023, 884,270 people are struggling with food insecurity* —and of them, 258,560 are children. That’s 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children in the state.

* The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods.

Venison Provisions is a budding 501(c)(3) organization located in Shorter, Alabama. Our goal is to connect the tons of unwanted, fresh, natural meat harvested by local hunters with the over 20% of households in Alabama that are food insecure.

Our Mission

Ready to take the next step?

Whether you’re most comfortable contributing your time, through volunteering or employment, to help achieve our goals, or donating money to help us grow, we need you on our team!

Take Action

We partner with Shana’s Place LLC, which will be processing the meat from all donated deer!

Stop by and give us a visit at our eccentric little meat market and deer processing facility, and see where the magic happens!

Update on Feral Hog Processing
as of 08/23/2024

We have relinquished our custom exempt permit from the Department of Agriculture to process feral hogs and are no longer accepting Feral Hogs for Donation.
Alabama’s current laws and regulations regarding wild hogs currently make it impossible to process and donate the meat for charity.

We are in the process of political lobbying to make statewide changes and stop the waste of this much-needed natural resource of food.
